The two new franchises of IPL met in a fierce battle tonight as the Gujarat Titans(GT) took on the Lucknow SuperGaints(LSG). Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets. Chasing 159 for the win, Rahul Tewatia (40 not out) and Abhinav Manohar (15*) held courage last stand and took Gujarat past the finish line with two balls to spare.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl. LSG openers on the ground were welcomed by GT’s Mohammad Shami with open arms as he dismissed LSG Skipper K.L. Rahul in the very first ball of the inning. And De Kock in third over. In 4.3 overs LSG’s score was 29/4 as Varun Aaron and Shami took the next pair. Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni saved LSG’s scanted score by scoring double half-centuries. And the 21 run cameo by Krunal Pandya took LSG’s score to a defendable 158/6.

With 159 to get LSG openers couldn’t do much, GI pacer Dushmantha Chameera removed Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar early in the powerplay to leave Gujarat Titans reeling at 44 for two after first six overs at the Wankhede Stadium. Skipper Hardik Pandya joined Matthew Wade after his team lost two early wickets in the chase. Hardik and Wade added a 50 partnership but soon fell in quick succession. For Lucknow, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni’s rescue act of 50-run stand bailed LSG from a perilous situation as Lucknow reached 158 for six in 20 overs.

Mohammad Shami won the Player of the match for his breathtaking spell of 3/25. Shami’s heroics couldn’t the LSG’s batting unit go full throttle as picked wickrts from the very first ball of the inning.
