KKR won the toss and kept the toss traditions alive by choosing to bowl. Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner gave a flamboyant start to Delhi’s inning. Delhi notched up the third-highest powerplay score (86/0) at the venue. Varun Chakravarthy gave KKR their first breakthrough as he removed the dangerous Prithvi Shaw for 51 in the 9th over. DC skipper Rishabh Pant then joined Warner and added some runs. DC got their second blow when Andre Russell removed Pant for 27. With a massive target to chase, KKR openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venketesh Iyer made their way to the crease. But Khaleel Ahmed‘s brilliant bowling removed both the openers meekingly, V. Iyer went making 18 in just 8 balls in the third over and Rahane went for 8 in the fifth over. Then, KKR’s run chase was hastened by the Skipper Shreyas Iyer and the experienced Nitish Rana. The duo took KKR past the 100 run mark in the 11th over. While Rana made 30 and got dismissed by Lalit Yadav in the 12th over, Shreyas played a crucial inning of 54 in 33 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. In the 15th over Khaleel struck again as he removed Sam Billings for 15. But the worst was still to come for KKR and that too from their ex-player, Kuldeep Yadav as he dismissed 3 KKR batters in the 16th over and decimated KKR’s run chase.
