Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a steady run in the early stages of IPL 15. They sealed a hat-trick of wins in the 4 games they have failed so far. Du Plessis and his troops upstaged a listless MI in Pune. The match turned into a one-sided affair after a dismal show of batting from MI. One of the biggest highlights of the RCB vs MI clash was King Kohli’s vintage knock of 48 runs. It guided RCB to a comprehensive triumph. However, a controversial decision denied the former RCB skipper’s first fifty of the season.

MI captain Rohit Sharma handed the ball to young Dewald Bravis in the 19th over as RCB needed only 8 runs to win. Brevis famously known as Baby AB, trapped Kohli in front of the stumps in the very first delivery of his IPL career. The on-field umpire adjudged Kohli out but the well-set batter took a DRS. He looked ascertained that he had got an inside edge before that ball hit his pads. It was a close call as it seemed the ball hit the bat and pad simultaneously. Third umpire Ulhas Ghande seconded the original decision in the absence of conclusive evidence. Therefore Brevis was awarded the prized wicket of Kohli as his maiden IPL scalp.

Virat was in complete disbelief at the decision and was clearly agitated as he walked back to the dug-out. The match ended in the next two deliveries after Maxwell smashed two back-to-back fours. But social media erupted calling Kohli’s dismissal an unfair decision on the part of umpires.

RCB takes jibe, while netizens mock Kohli’s contentious dismissal

RCB’s official Twitter handle took a dig at the match official’s quoting the Law 36.1.3 of MCC’s Law of Cricket. The debacle was Trending at #1 on Twitter after the match.

“In assessing point 36.1.3, if the ball makes contact with the striker’s person and bat simultaneously, this shall be considered as the ball having first touched the bat.”

Overall, fans were delighted to see the run machine back in form and will definitely hope that a big knock from his bat is not a long wait from now. RCB will be upbeat to stay on track as they face the underperforming CSK in their next clash. The face-off between Kohli and Dhoni, Du Plessis, and Jadeja is a riveting treat and fans can’t keep their calm for the Tuesday showdown.
