Spain, the 2010 World Cup winners, will be competing in their 16th World Cup. This year will mark La Roja’s 12th consecutive appearance since 1974.
Spain has managed to reach the final of this tournament just once and was able to win it against The Netherlands where Iniesta scored the only goal in extra time. Spain over the years did not have the best squads in the world, however, since the turn of the century, La Roja has been blessed with young and upcoming talent who went on to become world-beaters. Coming into the 2010 World Cup, Spain was enjoying their golden generation which also won the 2008 and 2012 Euros. La Roja back then had the most technically gifted players such as Xavi and Iniesta. A decade later, Spain once again has a strong squad comprising experienced players alongside generational talents in Pedri and Gavi.
This year in Qatar, Spain will have to face strong opponents and their road to glory will not come easy. They do have the chemistry ahead of the world cup but they lack a prolific striker. Luis Enrique will have to find his striker who can lead the attack and have a promising impact.
