Serbia had a very interesting past in the world of football. In 1920, They began their first international match playing at the summer Olympics in Antwerp against Czechoslovakia. 

Serbia in 1930 World Cup

But out of nowhere, the Soviet Union captain Bobrov scored a miraculous hat trick when they were up 5-2 and surprisingly they were 5-5, which came up as a result of the draw. 

Serbia in 1950, 1954, and 1958 World Cup

Coming back to the FIFA journey in 1950, they got an amazing result against Switzerland by winning 3-0 and against Mexico with a 4-1 win. They finished as a group-stage team and couldn’t advance further after getting defeated 0-2 by Brazil. 

1954 and 1958 were the time when they came ups a quarter-final team and both times West Germany where the apps who shattered Serbia’s dream to lift the trophy. 

Serbia’s best FIFA  (1962)

1962 was the best FIFA World Cup for Serbia, where they placed 4th in the tournament. They also defeated their best opponent, West Germany, in the quarter-final, but Czechoslovakia defeated them in the semi-final. Where they had the least chance to place as a 3rd but Chile got some other plans and a match happened where only 1 goal was scored and it was by Chile. 

After the 1962 FIFA, they did qualify in 1974,1982, 1990, and 1998, but the group stage, second round, and quarter-final were the only positions they achieved. 

Serbia from 1994 to 2006

From 1994 to 2006 was the time where Serbia merged with Montenegro

2006 was the worst edition where they made it to the group stage and lost to Argentina with an enormous loss of 6-0. 

After 2006, Serbia played as an independent country  

Serbia in its last decade (2010 to 2018)

Now coming to the last decade from 2010 to 2018, they didn’t achieve much rather playing as a group stage team. But if we see their history in FIFA, we could see a team with lots of opportunities and talents, and this time they have talents and also experience with them. 

They have Premier League 3rd top scorer Mitrovic, who is also the all-time top scorer of Serbia and Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus

Groups

They are playing in Group G against Brazil, Cameroon, and Switzerland.  It will be a tough journey for them to pass the group stage because they have been losing to Brazil and Switzerland for the last decade. But Keeping history aside, we think Serbia has a powerful team and could make something out of it. It also pictured the players who seemed in a dominant form and the team strength matters the most.
