Kishan came with a base price of 2 crores. Mumbai was the first team to bid for Ishan Kishan. Punjab Kings quickly followed. The bidding war was fierce between the teams for this young talent. Gujarat Titans also tried to bring Ishan Kishan to their camp, entering at 8cr. Just as Mumbai Indians scared off GT from their willingness to spend on Ishan Kishan. Sunrisers Hyderabad had entered the bid for this keeper-batsman. However, seeing Mumbai Indians break their 14-year-old record of not spending more than 10 crores on any player. Other teams got the message clearly. SRH had gone up to till15 crores. However, Mumbai Indians were ready to spend any amount on Ishan. SRH had to let him go. Mumbai Indians bought him back at a whopping Rs 15.25 crores INR. Ishan Kishan was sold at the second-highest price for any Indian player in IPL history.

The pocket-dynamo, as he is popularly known had declined a place at both the new franchises- Lucknow and Gujarat. He was one of the most anticipated players ahead of the auction. He decided to put himself in the auction pool because it was pretty clear that teams would spend a lot more in the auction on him, than what he will get by joining the new franchises ahead of the IPL Mega Auction. Clearly, Ishan was Mumbai’s first and foremost target. Since 2018, he has been with MI and will continue to be for a long time. Ishan was the leading run-scorer for MI in IPL 2020. He also smashed the highest number of sixes in the season. Ishan had played for India in 6 matches up till now, scoring 2 half-centuries.
