(10) Rashid Khan (INR 15 Crore)

Rashid Khan is number 10th on the list of top 10 most expensive players in IPL history. The star spinner was purchased by the recently introduced franchise, Gujarat Titans, for a whopping amount of Rs 15 Crore at the IPL Mega Auction 2022. Rashid is the former player of Sunrisers Hyderabad and was considered as the mainstay of the team, especially of their bowling department. He has won many matches for the franchise by clever deliveries to some of the greatest batsmen. It will be a treat to watch Rashid Khan play for another team and how he executes his bowling strategy in IPL 2022. 

(9) Hardik Pandya (INR 15 Crore)

Hardik Pandya was bought by the Gujarat Titans before the IPL Mega Auction 2022 happened, also for Rs 15 Crore. Gujarat Titans is basically the new name for the Ahmedabad-based IPL franchise owned by CVC capitals. Also, the franchise announced that Pandya will be the skipper of the team for the 15^th season of IPL. Hardik Pandya, the Indian International all-rounder, was a former player of Mumbai Indians and was a part of the franchise since 2015 at a price of INR 10 Lakhs. It seems like the cards have turned for the all-rounder as he has been bought at a huge price this time along with an opportunity to lead the team. 

(8) Ishan Kishan (INR 15.25 Crore)

Ishan Kishan is on number 8^th on the list of 10 most expensive buys in IPL history. Although, he is the costliest player of the recent IPL Mega Auction 2022. As a matter of fact, Mumbai Indians have retained the opening batter and wicket-keeper at a colossal amount of Rs 15.25 Crore. Kishan ignited a bidding war in the auction among franchises such as Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although, Mumbai Indians had the last laugh and retained the cricketer for a huge amount. Ishan Kishan has been a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise since IPL 2018. He was also the highest run –scorer for MI in IPL 2020.

(7) Pat Cummins (INR 15.50 Crore)

The Australian all-rounder, Pat Cummins, was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 auction for a total amount of Rs 15.50 Crore. As a result of this big purchase from KKR, Cummins became the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. In the 2022 auction held in Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were some of the franchises that invested interest in the all-rounder. However, ultimately Kolkata Knight Riders won the bidding battle against the two franchises and retained Pat Cummins this year for Rs 7.25 Crore. 

(6) Ravindra Jadeja (INR 16 Crore)

Sir Jadeja has always been one of the favourites of Chennai Super Kings and has been a core part of the team since IPL 2012. Although, for the two years that CSK was banned, Jadeja played for Gujarat Lions. He has been retained by his former team, CSK once again, for a massive amount of Rs 16 Crore for IPL 2022. Jadeja has been contributing to the team with his skills with the ball as well as the bat. He is an orthodox spinner along with being a middle-order batsman. He has scored many vital runs and laid a victory path for the team in his history of IPL. Also, Sir Jadeja being one of the most experienced players, can be one of the reasons as to his being one of the favorites of CSK, as we all know how significant the experience is for the team. 

(5) Rohit Sharma (INR 16 Crore)

The Indian skipper as well as the captain of Mumbai Indians has also made it to the list of top 10 most expensive players in IPL history. He has also been retained by the franchise for Rs 16 Crore ahead of IPL Mega Auction 2022. Rohit became a part of the MI Paltans in the year 2011. He started to lead the team in IPL 2013. Since then, he has been continuously retained by the franchise, not giving any other a chance to try and bid for the Hitman. Gradually, Rohit has proven to be a brilliant and the most successful captain for MI. He has led the team to take the trophy home for a total of 5 times, which is a huge milestone in itself. Fans and supporters of Mumbai Indians are hoping to get the trophy back at home in IPL 2022 as well. 

(4) Rishabh Pant (INR 16 Crore)

The wicket-keeper batsman has been bought by his previous team, Delhi Capitals for a huge amount of Rs 16 Crore ahead of IPL Mega auction 2022. He has been leading the team since IPL 2021 when Shreyas Iyer had to be ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. Rishabh Pant is a talented batsman and was the second-highest run scorer in the 2018 edition of the IPL. Pant will continue to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and the fans are hoping for a trophy takeaway by the team this year.

(3) Chris Morris (INR 16.25 Crore)

The recently retired South African cricketer is on number 3^rd of this list. Chris Morris was purchased by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 for a vast amount of Rs 16.25 Crore. With this, Morris became the most expensive buy of the 2021 edition of Indian Premiere League. Although, this large investment was made in hopes for great performances by the all-rounder, he scored a total of just 67 runs in 11 matches, which was not what expected of him from bat. Although, he did take 15 wickets in 11 matches for RR with the best being 4/23. By looking at his bowling stats, we can say that he contributed to RR in 2021 mainly through his skills with the ball. 

(2) Virat Kohli (INR 17 Crore)

Virat Kohli is known to be one of the greatest batsmen and so it is fair that he is on the top 2 of the lists of the most expensive cricketers in IPL history. King Kohli was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018 for a very huge amount of Rs 17 Crore. He has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise since the first season of IPL in 2008. He is also one of the few cricketers in the history of IPL has played for one franchise throughout all editions of the tournament.

After being such an expensive purchase in 2018, Kohli scored a total of 530 runs in 14 matches, with his highest being 92 runs. RCB has not won any IPL trophy till now even after getting on the verge of it. Kohli recently stepped down from being the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore after IPL 2021. It will be captivating to know who will be appointed to lead RCB in the 15^th season of IPL.

KL Rahul is on number one on this list as he has been purchased by the recently introduced franchise, Lucknow Super Giants, for a whopping Rs 17 Crore in the IPL Mega Auction 2022. He has also been chosen to lead the team in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Rahul was the former player and skipper of Punjab Kings and was a part of the franchise since IPL 2018. IPL 2020 and 2021 were very successful for Rahul. He scored a total of 670 and 626 runs in the respective editions of the game. Anil Kumble, Punjab Kings head coach, told in an interview that they wanted Rahul in their team for IPL 2022 as well but it was the cricketer’s own decision to part ways with his former franchise.
