Speaking of the climax of IPL mega auction 2022, no other sporting auction could be more enchanting and enthralling. The mega auction couldn’t be more intriguing, drawing each cricket fan’s attention to the top-notch level. This auction got its second-highest priced player in IPL history in the form of Ishan Kishan. The left-handed wicketkeeper batter was bought by Mumbai paltan for a handsome bid price of 15.25 crore. While several experienced and competent players were undervalued, it was the pacers who were the limelight of this year’s mega auction. Not to mention many fan-favorite cricketers remained unsold even at the end of day 2 of IPL auction. Here is the list of 5 prominent players who went unsold in IPL auction 2022:

5) Steve Smith

One of the best batters who can bring in stability in an event of cosequetive falling of wickets went unsold. The Australian batter who is also able to bowl a bit of leg spin, bats brilliantly at the number 3 position. He has played for franchises like Pune warriors and Leaded Rising Pune Supergiant to the 2017 IPL final but was consistent with RR. Steve has played 103 IPL innings and with a strike rate of 128.09 scored 2485 runs. The dependable batter also has a lot of international cricket experience and possesses a lot of leadership skills. Though given a base price of 2 crores, none of the bidding franchises seemed to have a bit interest in this resolute player.  

4) Hayden Kerr

Another Australian batting all-rounder who went unsold in the IPL auction 2022 is Hayden Kerr. The youngster made his T20 debut in the year 2019 for Sydney Sixers in the 2019-20 BBL season. The 25 year old left-arm medium fast has showcased his cricketing skills with both bat and ball. The right-arm batter made his first class debut for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield Season in 2021-22. Playing for Sydney Sixers, Hayden played 22 innings scoring 177 runs and crushed 25 wickets. Though the all-rounder’s base price was just 20 lakh INR, none of the teams took keen interest and thus remained unsold.

3) Suresh Raina

A wonderful player who has been a staunch and loyal CSK player since the franchise’s inception went unsold. Yes its no other than the India’s former T20 international specialist left-arm middle order batter Suresh Raina. Raina has been performing for CSK since the start of IPL and has played 205 IPL innings in total. Suresh also has the ability to spin the ball and has crushed wickets for both India and CSK. Being the fourth highest IPL run getter, at a strike rate of 136.76, Raina has scored 5528 runs and picked 25 wickets. His leadership skills were bought in light when he led Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons. Raina has been playing a vital role in CSK’s dominance in IPL over the years. This player with such fine temperament and left-arm grace going unsold in the auction is nothing but a pity.

  2) Ben McDermott

Yet another Australian player who had high expectations from the IPL mega auction and went unsold is Ben McDermott. The wicket keeper batter has taken everyone by surprise through his BBL performance. At an age of 27, the young batter has represented his nation in 19 T20Is. Ben has played 74 BBL matches and scored 2139 runs since his debut in 2014. He is a master in big hitting which he displayed playing for Hobart Hurricanes against his former BBL team Melbourne Renegades. He scored an unforgettable 114 off just 52 which included 9 sixes and 8 fours. Despite his dynamic and all-round cricketing skills, Ben couldn’t draw much attention and remained unsold.

 1) Shakib AL Hasan

One of the biggest names which come to mind when we talk of Bangladesh cricket is its star all-rounder Shakib AL Hassan. Shakib is currently holding the first and second position in ICC ranking of all-rounders in ODIs and T20Is respectively. He has been an excellent IPL performer as well and played vital roles in 2012 and 2014 KKR victories. Shakib has played 71 IPL innings scoring 793 runs and has crushed 63 wickets. He is one of KKR’s best fielders and has always proved his merit whether it be domestic or international cricket. Batting down the order, Shakib has always played the vital cameo role and always ended up helping his team in the road to victory. Though being a genuine and accomplished all-rounder of the game, none of the franchises take into account his colossal talent and remained unsold.
