The World Cup winner has become an international sensation after the tournament and his run with PSG. Mbappe is one of the best young players in the World right now. Yet to reach his prime, the PSG forward has already won 16 titles throughout his career including 4 Ligue 1 titles, 3 French cups and the World Cup in 2018. 1. Family of sports

Born to a family of athletes, Kylian has sports in his blood. His father, Wilfried along with being his manager is a football coach. Meanwhile his mother, Fayza Lamari is a former handball player. His younger brother, Ethan also plays for PSG’s under 12 squad. Mbappe also has an adoptive brother Jirès Kembo Ekoko who is also a professional football player and played for Turkish club Bursaspor.

2. Idolizes Cristiano

Growing up, Mbappe used to idolize the five time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. He had his pictures stuck on the wall all around his room. We have seen that picture circulate over social media quiet a few times. The Frenchman’s father said he used to watch his videos all day to play like him one day. We, sure see the reflection of that on field. Kylian’s dreams have come true now that he has his own pictures to flaunt. The two players have met quiet a few times on the field during UCL and international games.

3. Second most expensive player

Back in 2013, Kylian used to idolize Cristiano but right now he has become quiet a world sensation himself. The PSG number 7 is the second most expensive player in the world after Neymar. Mbappe signed for PSG in a transfer deal worth €180m plus add ons from his old club Monaco. Kylian won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco in 2017 then helped PSG win two Ligue 1 titles after signing for them.

4. Fan of sneakers

We all used to cry infront of our parents in attempt to get the toy we wanted. For Mbappe that toy is sneakers as he describes himself as a “kid with a new toy” whenever he is given a pair of sneakers. Growing up he had to request his parents to get it for him as they were expensive. Today, Mbappe has a sponsorship deal with Nike and has his own section on their website called, “Boutique De Mbappe.” Which displays his choices of boots. Now he has hundreds of them and still continues to add more to his collection.

5. Heart of gold

Mbappe won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France. He took a lot of pride in representing his country and felt like he did not need to get paid for it. According to him footballers earn ‘indecent’ amount of money. He donated all of his world cup earnings estimated to be around €400,000 to a Premiers de Cordée charity. The charity organises sports programs for disabled and handicapped children encouraging them to play. Kylian said “It doesn’t change my life, but it changes theirs. And if it can change theirs, it is a great pleasure.”

6. Chelsea saga

The PSG number 7 was very close to joining Chelsea in 2012. He gave a trial for the club but they were not convinced enough and wanted another one. The blues academy also gave him a number 10 shirt. His mother rejected the offer saying, “Either they sign him now, or within five years they’ll have to offer €50million to tie him down.”

7. Faster than Usain bolt?

We are all aware of Usain Bolt, the fastest athlete on the planet who set a world record in 100m race in 2009 averaging a speed of 23.35mph. Well, our Frenchman ran just a little bit faster in the match against Monaco in 2019 when he scored an incredible goal. Mbappe set an impressive speed of 23.61 mph, 0.25 miles per hour faster than Usain Bolt. However, Bolt soon broke the record in 100m race in Berlin when he recorded a speed of 27.8 miles per hour.

8. Could have been Cameroon or Algeria

One of the most surprising unknown facts about Kylian Mbappe is that he could have chosen to play for Cameroon or Algeria. The Frenchman’s mother is Algerian and his father is actually from Cameroon. However, Mbappe was born and brought up in France and played at the prestigious Clairefontaine academy and hence chose to play for his birth country. Kylian lifted the World cup with Les Blues in 2018.
