Perth Stadium, currently known as Optus Stadium due to sponsorship reasons, is a multi-use stadium in the Burswood neighbourhood of Perth, Western Australia. On January 21, 2018, it was formally inaugurated after being finished in late 2017. The stadium is an architectural marvel, with more than 85% of the seats in the stadium covered by a white fabric roof, which gives the impression that it is floating above it. If lit at night, it creates a stunning lighting halo effect. Perth Stadium was awarded the 2019 World Prix Versailles award in the Sports category. This is the World Architecture and Design Award. This venue is the home ground of the Big Bash League team Perth Scorchers. So let’s check out Perth Stadium Seating Capacity, Boundary Length, Big Records, Map, Cost, Size, Pitch Details and History
Perth Stadium Seating Capacity
The stadium can accommodate 61,266 people in total, including standing room, making it Australia’s third-largest stadium (after the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Stadium Australia). For rectangular sports, the stadium may be expanded to hold up to 65,000 spectators.
Optus Stadium History
The Western Australian committee authorised Subiaco Oval’s demolition between 2014 and 2016 in 2007. This would enable the completion of the Perth Stadium’s construction. By 2014, when the stadium was halfway done and had a capacity of 40,000 spectators, Australian rules football and cricket could have been played there. Staged construction would have made this possible. The stadium’s capacity would increase to 60,000 if the last stage was finished in 2016. According to the stadium’s blueprints, the playing surface would have been oval-shaped to handle cricket and Australian rules football matches. But Australia’s internal politics heckled the plan and the plan got disposed of by 2010.
However in 2011, the state government said that the new stadium would be constructed in Burswood on the northern end of the Burswood Park golf course. The government said that the planning for the new stadium at Burswood was expected to be finished by the middle of 2012, with construction starting in 2014 and ending in 2018. It declared Multiplex to be the party in possession of the stadium building contract.
Perth Stadium Boundary Length
Due to its rectangular shape, the stadium has square boundaries of smaller lengths whereas the straighter boundaries are smaller. The straighter boundaries, measured from the centre of the pitch, are approximately 70 metres, while the midwicket boundaries are approximately 85 metres.
Perth Stadium Construction Cost
Completed in 2018, the total construction cost of the stadium was around $1.6 billion. The stadium has all the modern amenities like fly boxes , multiple exits and crowd control management system.
Optus Stadium Land Area
The stadium is 42 metres high and has five levels. It is located in the northern part of the Burswood Park Golf Course. It has a field that is 165 metres long and 130 metres wide, as well as a seating bowl designed in the manner of a colosseum.
Perth Stadium Pitch Details
The track at Optus Stadium has a considerable degree of bounce, so the pitch there will undoubtedly have something for pacers. The Optus Stadium’s pitch, on the other hand, is level, and the hitters will enjoy playing on this particular wicket. There are no obvious demons here, but the pacers can startle the batsmen with short balls. The Optus Stadium’s straighter boundaries aren’t very big, so the bowlers wouldn’t risk throwing too many fuller-length balls. Even the outfield is pretty quick in this place, which will only help the batters. The spinners would focus on the slightly larger midwicket boundaries.
