“MS Dhoni Was Very Happy,” Reveals CSK CEO About Bagging Ben Stokes for IPL 2024

Not only for this season, but Ben Stokes is also now the third costliest player ever in the IPL history.

Coming to IPL after a hiatus of almost two seasons, Ben Stokes has hit a jackpot in IPL 2024 mini-auction. The current test captain of England went to the 4-time champion CSK. Stokes bagging a stunning deal in the IPL didn’t come as a shock after his recent heroics for England in the T20 World Cup. Proving the speculations correct, the Super Kings didn’t back down in putting almost their whole purse on the table for the seasoned all-rounder. When the auction wrapped up, Ben Stokes, worth a whopping 16.25 crores, turned out as the third costliest buy of the evening. MS Dhoni, the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings is ecstatic about Stokes’ entry into the team.

Not only for this season, but Ben Stokes is also now the third costliest player ever in the IPL history. Though Chennai had just a little over 20 crores in their purse, they didn’t shy away from putting the most on stake for Stokes. When Dwayne Bravo retired from IPL this season, he left a gaping hole for an all-rounder in CSK. Of course, Ravindra Jadeja is there, but a one-man army approach is not always reliable. Hence, CSK saw an opportunity and bagged Ben Stokes with all their might. The team’s CEO Kasi Vishwanath, subsequently, revealed that MS Dhoni is fairly “ecstatic” by the deal.

“Very excited to get (Ben) Stokes and we were lucky also because he came up at the end. We wanted an all-rounder and MS (Dhoni) was very happy that we got Stokes,” shared Vishwanath. Moreover, he also talked about the future captaincy option for CSK after the conclusion of Dhoni’s time as the skipper. Meanwhile, CEO Kasi Vishwanath also talked about getting the New Zealand Kyle Jamieson at a shockingly low price.

“Captaincy option is there but it’s a call MS will take with time. Kyle Jamieson was injured so maybe many others didn’t look at him. We had information from Fleming that he had recovered and was raring to go,”
Vishwanath said. “CSK looks bright and I hope we do well this season. We follow the process always and that will help us do well,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, former CSK player and Stokes’ English teammate, Sam Curran has clinched the costliest deal in the auction. The young all-rounder went to Punjab Kings with a historic deal worth 18.50 crores. Curran, in turn, has become the highest-paid player in the history of IPL. Lastly, Australia’s all-rounder Cameron Green became the second-highest paid player as Mumbai Indians acquired him for a sum of 16.50 crores.
