India Vs Bangladesh: Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Ashwin Turn the Heroes in the Final Test

India’s tour of Bangladesh is now concluded with the test series siding with the guests. The second India vs Bangladesh test turned into a thriller with a clear fight on the final day of the match. Batting first in the match, Bangladesh posted 227 runs on the board in the first innings. Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin turned the stars of India scalping 4 wickets each. India in retaliation managed 314 runs as Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan stunned the guests with 4 wickets haul of their own.

Cometh the second innings, the Shere Bangla pitch played no different. Bangladesh managed to post a mere target of 145 dwindling against the attack of the Indian bowlers. However, the chase didn’t conclude as easily as expected for India. Playing in the last hour of day 4, Indian captain KL Rahul once again departed cheaply at the score of 2(7) on a cheeky outside edge. The star of the first test Cheteshwar Pujara joined Shubman Gill to extend India’s reach in the match.

Piercing Pujara’s defense, Bangladeshi prodigy Mehidy Hasan Miraj led him out of the crease. Consequently, Nurul Hasan successfully stumped a haphazard Pujara at a mere score of 6(12). Then came Axar Patel as the night watchman to assist Shubman Gill in the seemingly last moments of the day. However, learning nothing from Pujara’s falter, Gill followed the suit and got stumped answering Miraj’s question. Ending a rather struggling time at the crease, the young opener departed with a score of 7(35).

The next man in, Virat Kohli failed to put any impact returning to the dressing room on the same day at 1(22). On the final day, Bangladesh turned the game swiftly to their side. Jaydev Unadkat (13), Axar Patel (34), and Rishabh Pant (9) returned to the dugout early on the final day leaving the chase open. However, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer had different plans as they settled a stupendous partnership to take the game home.

The 71-run partnership between Iyer and Ashwin sealed the deal for India. Scoring a dominating 87 in the first innings, Iyer repeated the heroics with a 29* stand in the chase. Ashwin meanwhile treated Miraj with a six and two fours in the last over scoring 42* off 62. Consequently, India though dwindling attained a 2-0 win against Bangladesh in the test series. The tour has concluded with a 2-1 ODI series defeat and a 2-0 test series win for India.
