The Shere Bangla National Stadium has field dimensions of 186 m X 136 m. Originally, the stadium was designed to host football matches and was consequently shaped rectangular. However, it was later remodeled into a circular shape to suit cricket games. Moreover, the ground was dug up to remove red clay and install a proper drainage facility here. Now, the stadium sports one of the best drainage systems in the country, and the ground suits cricket games perfectly.

The Shere Bangla National stadium has the capacity to host 25,000 spectators at a time. Moreover, the seating capacity can’t be expanded past the set 25,000 limits.

Pitch Details

The pitch here at Shere Bangla Stadium is known to be batting-friendly. The track offers next to nothing to the seamers. However, spinners do achieve some turn here. Moreover, the pitch slows down a pit towards the latter part of the innings. However, overall the pitch majorly favors batters in both innings.

  • Established in 2006, The Shere Bangla National Stadium has hosted as many as 113 ODI matches until now. Incidentally, India holds the record for scoring the highest runs at this venue in an ODI. The average first innings score in an ODI here is recorded at 228. The average score subsequently drops down to 197 in the second innings.
  • Highest Recorded Total: 370/4 by India vs Bangladesh
  • Lowest Recorded Total: 58/10 by Bangladesh vs India
  • Highest Score Chased: 330/4 by India vs Pakistan
  • Lowest Score Defended: 105/10 by India vs Bangladesh
