Is Jaydev Unadkat playing against Bangladesh in 1st Test today?

After a long wait, Indian left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat got his opportunity to represent the Indian test team.

After a long wait, Indian left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat got his opportunity to represent the Indian test team. But unfortunately, he has to wait to play, as the India pacer will miss the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong. Mainly because of visa issues, Unadkat is yet to arrive in Bangladesh for the series opener, which begins today.

Unadkat, who made his Test debut and only Test appearance in South Africa in 2010, has been recalled to the squad for the two-match Test series in Bangladesh, which will also be India’s penultimate assignment in the World Test Championship cycle.

How good was Jaydev Unadkat this year?

Unadkat was recognised for his consistent performances on the domestic circuit, where he took 353 wickets in 96 games. Unadkat’s 67 wickets in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season led Saurashtra to their first title. Unadkat was outstanding in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 19 wickets in 10 matches.

What does this test series mean for India?

KL Rahul’s tactical skills, as well as his batting prowess, will be put to the test when a depleted Indian team clashes with a tricky Bangladesh in a high-stakes two-match series, the outcome of which will affect India’s chances for the World Test Championship final qualification.

India is currently ranked fourth in the world, trailing only Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. To eliminate any ifs and buts, the only way to qualify for the June final is to win both Tests against Bangladesh and then all four at home against Pat Cummins’ Australia.

India starts their test journey at the Zahoor Ahmed Stadium, however, the absence of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja could weaken the squad’s strength.
