MI vs CSK match result: Vintage Mahi pulls off a nerve-wracking finish as CSK defeats MI
Match Overview
Ist Inning
Keeping the IPL 2022 traditions intact, CSK won the toss and decided to bowl. CSK’s Mukesh Chaudhary dismissed the dangerous Rohit Sharma for a golden duck in the second ball of the inning. With which Sharma achieved the highest ranking in the list of most ducks in IPL. The fifth ball of the inning and Chaudhary rattles the stumps of Ishan Kishan and becomes the first CSKian to dismiss 2 wickets in the first over. Chaudhary strikes again in the fourth over as he sends back Dewald Brevis for 4. Then on, MI’s inning was stabilised by the partnership of Surya Kumar and Tilak Varma, but not for long. Santner managed another breakthrough and halted this budding partnership as he dismissed Surya for 32 and Mumbai was strangled at 47/4. But with Tilak hitting a crucial half-century and Pollard and Unadkat’s cameos Mumbai got bail out of a precarious situation and posted 155/7.

IInd Inning
With 156 to win, CSK openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa made their way to the centre. MI needed early wickets, and Daniel Sams did it for them as he dismissed Gaikwad on the first ball of this inning. In the third over Sams struck again as he sent back Mitchell Santner for 11. Uthappa and Rayudu build Chennai’s initial inning with their partnership. Uthappa made a decent 30 in 25 balls and Rayudu smashed 40 in 35 balls before getting cleaned up. Shivam Dube and Skipper Ravindra Jadeja didn’t disturb the scoreboard much and left CSK stuck at 106/6.
Dhoni finishes off things in style…
Mahendra Singh Dhoni enters the arena in the 16th over with Dwaine Pretorius at the other end. The duo started puffing life into Chennai’s brain-dead run chase. Hitting an unbeaten 28 in 13 balls, Dhoni in the last over of Jaydev Unadkat fired 16 runs. With 3 needed on the last ball, the finisher smacks the ball for a boundary taking Chennai past the finish line.
