Despite Gujrat Titans setting the bars for a debutant team relatively high, Lucknow Super Giants performed fairly well in IPL 2022. The Giants made it all through the league stage shuffling within the top three spots in the points table. Noting their positives from the previous season, LSG has released their retention list. The retentions reflect the selection committee’s trust in their core from the maiden season. KL Rahul is obviously back as the skipper. Moreover, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya are still together in the same team.
Lucknow Super Giants put a show of buys in the 2022 mega auction after drafting KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi in the starting phase. Giants, acquiring the likes of Quinton de Kock, Hooda, Pandya, Avesh Khan, and others fully drained their purse. And hence, going forward in the 2024 mini-auction, the team largely depends on their releases for this season. Moreover, an additional 5 crores assigned to every team will help Giants build their squad strength.
While the LSG core doesn’t look much changed, releasing Manish Pandey comes off as their major move. The Karnataka batter failed to leave an impact in the starting season for Lucknow. Consequently, the team limited their association with the batter. Moreover, the team has also bid adieu to major overseas names like Jason Holder, Dushmantha Chameera, and Evin Lewis. Lucknow Super Giants have to fill their remaining 10 slots with the budget set at 23.35 crores.
