The former World No one, Novak Djokovic has to withdraw from the U.S Open 2022 due to CDC travel protocols. The unvaccinated Serbian was also prohibited earlier from the Australian Open for the reason of his vaccination. Unfortunately, he is again banned to enter North America as an unvaccinated non-citizen thus withdrawn from the major.
Djokovic has not clutched any ATP Tour throughout North America just before the U.S Open. He missed all hard court tournaments followed by achieving his 21st Grand Slam title last month.
Novak Djokovic: Serbian withdraws from US Open amid CDC travel guidelines
Djokovic, who is strictly unvaccinated by his personal choice, will again have to face consequences regarding competing in Grand Slams. The 21-time Grand Slam champion was allowed to compete in Wimbledon, London, where he made the number of titles exceed by one. Novak’s belief in being unvaccinated left him set back from yet another major, one of his best. His yet another opportunity to lift his 22nd Grand Slam title will be pending for a few months.
Novak is a great champion and it is very unfortunate that he will be unable to compete at the 2022 US Open, as he is unable to enter the country due to the federal government’s vaccination policy for non-U.S.citizens
Stacey Allaster, US Open Tournament Director
Even though Nole has been twice affected by COVID-19 still, he is affirmed to not get vaccinated due to utter belief. His name has officially been erased from the main draw list on the official U.S Open website. Prior to withdrawal, he was standing as the 5th-seed after an unfortunate withdrawal of Alexander Zverev.
However, the Serbian will be actively participating in the Laver Cup that will be played from September (last week). He will represent as one member of the “Team Europe” along with Roger, Nadal, Casper and two more. It is surely assumed that Novak has also not travelled yet to North America to compete in any ATP Tours. Hopefully, he will resume his tennis after the U.S Open.
