Yesterday Pant was engaged in a heated argument about an umpiring decision. Therefore he was penalized on the match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Delhi played against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium last night. It was in the final over, when Delhi batter Rovman Powell had smashed 3 back-to-back sixes. DC needed 36 runs off the final over and they’ve lost all hopes. However, the back-to-back sixes bought them back in the game. On the 3rd ball of the over, the ball was above the waist height and should’ve been given a no-ball. However, the on-field umpire thought otherwise. The DC dugout started gesturing to the batters. Rishabh Pant was fined 100% match fees.
When the matter escalated, assistant coach Pravin Amre stepped in to talk to the umpire, Nitin Menon. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler had walked up to pant to have a word with him. However, the decision of the on-field umpire wasn’t overturned. Rishabh Pant was even seen gesturing for his batters to walk off the field. This behavior has been condemned by former cricketers and commentators.
