MS Dhoni denied the role of mentor for CSK’s new team in CSA T20 League by BCCI: Report

Dinesh Karthik, Yuvraj Singh too denied participation in the past.

The BBL, CPL, The Hundred, and other international T20 tournaments have never been open to male cricketers from India. Even though some IPL franchises have purchased clubs in the next T20 tournaments in South Africa and the UAE. This rule is expected to witness no change and continue in the future.

It was previously been suggested that MS Dhoni would serve as a coach for Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) new team in the CSA T20 League. However, the latest report published in The Indian Express tells something else. It said Dhoni can’t be used in a mentorship role as he is still playing for CSK in the IPL.

“It’s clear, no Indian player including domestic players can take part in any other league until he is retired from all forms of the game. If any player wants to take part in these upcoming leagues he can only do so when he cuts off all ties with the BCCI,”

Dinesh Karthik, Yuvraj Singh denied permissions in the past

Earlier, for his presence at a promotional event for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Trinbago Knight Riders, which is owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, Dinesh Karthik received a show cause notice from BCCI in September 2019.

Karthik, the former captain of KKR, was spotted in the TKR locker room. He was there for the team’s CPL 2019 season opener versus St. Kitts & Nevis at Port of Spain. Karthik was consequently required to make an unqualified apology for breaking the terms of his primary contract.

According to BCCI regulations, no Indian male cricket player who hasn’t formally announced his retirement from all competitions, including local and international, is permitted to play in any foreign T20 tournament that rivals the Indian Premier League.

In 2019, Yuvraj Singh had to retire from international cricket to be able to play with Toronto Nationals and Maratha Arabians, in the Global Canada T20 League and Abu Dhabi T10 League respectively. On the other hand, the BCCI has permitted its female cricketers to play in international leagues. Players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues, among others, have participated in events like the WBBL and The Hundred.
