Suresh Raina, Chennai’s Chinna Thala has been given the title of ‘Mr. IPL’ over the years. Raina is the fourth-highest run-scorer in the IPL history. Despite this, remaining unsold in the auction came as an utter shock for his fans when Chennai Super Kings or any other 9 teams didn’t pick him at the mega auction last month. There was speculation on social media that Raina may replace Jason Roy at the Gujarat Titans. But even that didn’t turn out to be true. Losing all hope, Raina fans were pacifying themselves for the first Mr IPL less IPL. But finally, there is some good news for them. The former Indian middle-order batter will be seen in IPL 2022 but dawning a new position off the pitch, as a Hindi commentator.
“You all know that Raina won’t be a part of the IPL this time but we somehow wanted to link him with the tournament. He has a massive fan following and there is a reason why he is known as Mr IPL. As for Shastri, he was part of the Star Sports English commentary team. But he didn’t commentate after the final of Champions Trophy in 2017 as he became India’s head coach,”
an IPL source said while speaking to Dainik Jagran newspaper
He will be seen in action in the commentary box alongside former India head coach Ravi Shastri. Shastri will make a comeback in the commentary following his 7-year coaching stint with Team India.

Ravi Shastri to be part of Hindi commentary team
Shastri was reportedly approached by one of the two new teams for the coaching role ahead of the IPL. But it seems that things didn’t materialise between them. Shastri, having been a much loved English commentator in his post-cricketing career would be in a completely different space this time. As he’ll be making his debut as a Hindi commentator. Shastri, however, will return as a commentator for the first time since he was appointed team India’s head coach back in 2017.
Meanwhile, Shastri is taking Hindi lessons on Zoom from a linguistic expert and he has also been doing some commentary rehearsals ahead of the season.
