Throughout the World Cup campaign in Australia, rain has been an incessant hindrance for the tournament. This tournament saw the most number of washed-out matches. And with just two games remaining to conclude the campaign, it’s still a possibility for the rain to act as a spoilsport. With the semi-final scheduled in Adelaide, let’s see what happens if rain turns out as the third side in the game.

How Will Rain Affect the India Vs England Semi-Final?

The India Vs England semi-final will unfold in Adelaide on November 10. ICC has laid rules meant to tackle situations like rain washing away a knockout game. According to the rules, there’s a reserve day for the semi-final match. So in case, rain affects the November 10 clash, it will happen the next day, November 11. And the game will continue from where it was left on the first day. If rain doesn’t allow even a single ball on the originally decided date, the game will start from the first ball on the reserve day.

However, if it also rains on the reserve day, then the rules bend a little. In the latest updates, ICC declared that a minimum of 10 overs game in the second innings is required to produce a result. Previously, a minimum of 5 overs game sufficed the purpose. The winner within that 10 overs frame will consequently reach the finals. In the last possible scenario, if rain doesn’t allow even the minimum overs game, then it comes to the points table. The team finishing ahead on the points table will extend their campaign to the finals.

In this case, if rain washes away all the possibilities of a match, India will reach the finals. India finished first in the Group 2 points table with 8 points. England, however, ended their Super 12 campaign with 7 points. And England, eventually ended up in the second spot in the Group 1 points table, just behind New Zealand. So, if rain plays the ultimate spoilsport, the final will consequently be played between the arch-rivals Pakistan and India. However, rain prediction for November 10 in Adelaide is a mere 30% at the moment.
