“Rahul, naam toh suna hi hoga“. If Rahul Dravid dominated the 2000s, his Karnataka namesake KL Rahul has been on a similar track as Mr. Dependable at present. A gamechanger across all formats, KL Rahul is also the vice-captain of the Men In Blue. The swashbuckling cricketer rules the roosts in IPL as well and is currently at the helm of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. The 29-year old recently featured in the 1st episode of the popular chat show “Breakfast with Champions: Season 7”. KL Rahul shared some unknown anecdotes about his personal life and how his journey has been so far in the world of cricket. The most amusing story he revealed was about how his parents named him Rahul. Rahul, is quite a popular name in Indian families and is often related to Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who had played plenty of on-screen characters named Rahul.
“Her story was that she was a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and his characters in the 90s were Rahul, right? So, I used to go with that story. I told one of my friends. who watches probably a lot of Bollywood movies, and he said, ‘Bro, Shah Rukh’s first character as Rahul was in 1994. You’re born in 1992. So, it doesn’t make sense’,”
KL Rahul said on what her mother told him was the reason behind naming him Rahul.
Besides, he also revealed a different side of the story where he disclosed that his father gave him an entirely contrasting reason behind his name. KN Lokesh, Rahul’s father was a huge admirer of Sunil Gavaskar, one of the greatest stalwarts of the game. He, therefore, decide to name his son after Gavaskar’s son but mistook Rohan Gavaskar’s name to be Rahul.
