Once an athlete, always an athlete. Barely a month after retiring from professional tennis, Ashleigh Barty is back to her winning ways in the world of sports. The 25-year-old won the women’s tournament at the Brookwater Golf and Country Club.
Barty, the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion beat four other women to walk away with the title and $30 in prize money.
The former World No.1 took a hiatus from tennis in 2014 and pursued Cricket. She went on to play for Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League. While it raises questions over Ash switching to Golf professionally, it seems unlikely as competing professionally requires a lot of travel which is one of the reasons why she retired from tennis.
Golf has been an integral part of Ashleigh Barty’s life, given that her parents played the game in their youth. She took to the game when she was young but did not pursue it. Golf’s importance also extends to Barty’s love life as her fiance Garry Kissick is a golfer as well. Incidentally, the two had met at the same club where she won on Saturday. Ash had won this title in September 2020 as well.
