Uruguay is a two-time world cup winning nation including the inaugural 1930 World Cup where they won as hosts. Apart from that, they have come close just to losing in the semis on three occasions.
Over the years, despite having some top-notch players in their squad, Uruguay has seemingly lost its touch on the international stage. During, Russia 2018, Uruguay topped their group by getting the better of Portugal, however, getting matched up against France in the round of 16 turned out to be a difficult task. They also have a history with Ghana which goes back to 2010 in South Africa, where the controversial handball from Luis Suarez prevented Ghana from scoring and eventually eliminating them in the penalties.
This time around, Uruguay has a much stronger squad compared to previous years. Veterans such as El Matador and El Pistolero provide the goal threat and experience with a combined 126 goals for Uruguay. In addition, Uruguay has managed to develop a new generation of talent which is currently blooming such as Darwin Nunez, Ronald Araujo, and Federico Valverde among others.

Uruguay has been allotted Group H where they go against South Korea, Portugal and Ghana. Uruguay is among the favorites to top the group alongside Portugal but Ghana and South Korea are well capable of pulling an upset.
