India is widely known for the cricketing legends it produces. Be it, Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli, Indian cricketers have been leaving a mark on world cricket throughout the years. However, in recent times, Indian female cricketers have also been proving their mettle all around the world and making us all proud. With the likes of Mithali Raj and Anjum Chopra, there have been several Indian female cricketers that have laid the foundation of women’s cricket in India.

Top 5 Female Indian Cricketers at Present

Harmanpreet Kaur

The first up on the list is the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Making her debut in 2009, she has scored over 2000 runs in ODIs and 3000 runs in T20Is. Kaur is widely known for her destructive batting in the world. Moreover, she was the first Indian woman to get signed in for the Women’s Big Bash League in 2016.

Kaur as the national captain believes in leading from the front. In the recently held CWG at Birmingham, her efforts in the final against Australia while batting in a very critical situation is evident of the same. She is currently the leading run-scorer for India in T20Is.

Smiriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana

This name is the most renounced of all. The left-handed opener batter and the current vice-captain of the Indian national team has a fanbase of her own. Her destructive yet classy way of batting has earned her many praises all around the world. Mandhana made her Indian debut in 2013 at the age of just 18. Since then she has gone on to score over 2500 runs in ODIs and 2000 runs in T20Is. For her incredible performance in the year 2018, she was named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. As well as the ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year.

Jhulan Goswami on our list of Top 5 Female Indian Cricketers

A West Bengal-based fast baller who made her debut for India back in 2002. She has personally seen the evolution of women’s cricket in India and is one of the reasons for the same. Goswami with over 250 wickets, is the leading wicket-taker in WODIs. She has represented India in several ICC tournaments and has played major roles in all of them. In 2007, she was named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.

However, Goswami is now set to retire from international cricket. As she has recently announced her retirement post the ongoing India tour of England.

Shefali Verma

18-year-old Shefali is a sensational cricketer and well known for her ball-hitting abilities. In 2019, at the age of 15, she became the youngest cricketer to play in a WT20I for India. In June 2021, she became the youngest player, male or female, to represent India in all three formats of international cricket. Ahead of the 2020 ICC WT20 World Cup, Verma was ranked as the number one batter in women’s T20I cricket, thanks to her performance in the past series. Making her Test debut on 16 June 2021, for India against England she scored a poignant 96 runs in her first Test innings. Verma was eventually named the player of the match after scoring 159 runs in her two innings. Verma has made a huge impact on world cricket within a very short span. While has years and years of cricket left.

Jemimah Rodrigues

After an incredible domestic season, wherein she became the second woman after Smriti Mandhan to score a double century in a 50-over match. Rodrigues was named in the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa in 2018. The same month she also made her T20I debut for India. Later, the same year she made her way into the 2018 ICC Women’s World cup. Following the conclusion of the tournament, she was named the standout player on the team by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

She was a part of the Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, in 2022. She played a major role throughout the tournament. Moreover, her partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur in the final was one of the reasons that took the game so close for India.
