The numerous records the Buttler-Hales duo broke apart from crushing India’s second T20 Title dream

England will play their third T20 World Cup final against Pakistan on November 13 at MCG

T20 World Cup 2022 2nd Semi-final: The English captain and his counterpart made a chase of 169 runs look like child’s play. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales with their opening stand of 170 run crushed India out of the final race for the T20 World Cup title.

More from the English skipper himself,

You couldn’t ask for a better runchase. I ummed and aahed over the toss, but gut feel said to chase today. India are sometimes more dangerous when they know what target they need. I thought Adil Rashid was outstanding; that’s the best I’ve seen him bowl in a long while. I thought he was our best chance to pick up wickets and he got the key one of Suryakumar.

The dimensions of this ground suited Chris Jordan and I thought he bowled fantastically well. I don’t think CJ was thanking me too much for bowling him three overs in a row at the death. I thought it was an incredible effort.

It’s too soon to say whether Dawid or Mark will be fit for Sunday. We’ve seen quite a lot of Pakistan recently; they’ve found some great form. At the moment we’re just excited to be in the final. We had the stress of trying to get through the group stages and now we’re in the final.

Buttler with his 80 not out and Hales with his unbeaten 86 combined 170 for no loss and saw records tremble. The duo passed the previous highest opening stand at a Men’s T20 World Cup. Which was earlier held by Mohammad Rizwan-Babar Azam duo of 152 runs, that too against India in the prior edition of the mark tournament.

Moreover, the run-chase took England’s opening partners to an even higher milestone. Their 170 is now the highest partnership for any wicket at any ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The record of 166 between Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara had stood for 12 years. However, earlier in this tournament, the South African duo of de Kock and Rilee Rossouw had surpassed it by two runs against Bangladesh. But de Kock and Rossouw’s stay at the top lasted just two weeks.

Thanks to the numerous records the Buttler-Hales duo broke England will play their third T20 World Cup final against Pakistan on November 13 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
