“Team environment has been non-conductive to my ability,” WI women all-rounder Deandra Dottin calls time on her career

All-rounder Deandra Dottin announced the end of her West Indies cricket career in a stunning development. She made the announcement of her retirement on Twitter. Dottin stated that the current team climate has not allowed her to flourish, which is the primary reason she announced her retirement.

Dottin, one of the best players ever, is now competing for Barbados at the Commonwealth Games 2022. She played for West Indies in 144 One Day Internationals and 126 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring 3727 runs overall with a top of 150* and 2689 runs with a best of 112*, respectively.

In white-ball cricket, she has taken 134 wickets. In both women’s ODIs and T20Is, she is the second highest run scorer for

West Indies women. Dottin stated her inability to follow team ethos and atmosphere as the cause for her retirement.

“This announcement has come with much contemplation as cricket has always been a passion of mine. However, when the fire burns out, one has to take time to reassess their commitment,”


“There have been many obstacles during my cricket career that I have had to overcome; however, the current climate and team environment has been non-conductive to my ability to thrive and reignite my passion. With much sadness but without regret, I realise that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team environment as it has undermined my ability to perform excellently,” she concluded.

In the ongoing CWG 2022, Dottin will continue to represent Barbados. Her team’s upcoming game against India on Wednesday will be a game that will determine their fate (3rd August).
