Rishi Dhawan Face Mask: Why is Rishi Dhawan wearing face shield against CSK?

Punjab Kings took on Chennai Super Kings last night to register their win. PBKS all-rounder Rishi Dhawan played his first match of the season. It is almost after 6 years since the Himachal Pradesh captain has given an IPL appearance. Rishi Dhawan dismissed the in-form Chennai batter Shivam Dube to open his account. He then went on to pick 3 important wickets. What caught the attention of the viewers was Rishi Dhawan wearing a Face Mask. Bowlers usually don’t play with such masks on and it is a rare sight. Therefore, it left fans intrigued.

Several theories surfaced after Rishi was seen wearing the shield on his face. Rishi Dhawan started his IPL career with Punjab and now after 14 years, he has returned to the team. The reason for his return is his excellent performance in domestic cricket. In December 2021, Rishi led Himachal Pradesh to its first Vijay Hazare title. Moreover, this is the very first time Himachal had won a domestic trophy. Earlier, he was the leading run-scorer for HP in 2018-19 Ranji season. He is also known as the finest cricketer the state has ever produced.

Rishi was seen wearing the mask because of a past experience. Reportdely, Dhawan got hit on the face in Ranji Trophy. While Rishi was in follow-through of his action, a shot from the batter has smashed Rishi on the face. He had to be taken to hospital after the incident.

However, there is another theory that can be seen on the internet. It states, Rishi Dhawan had incurred a nose inury while practising for the IPL. Moreover, he has reportedly undergone a surgery. So, Rishi has worn the mask to protect his face from any other injury or discomfort.
