5 Most undervalued players in IPL auction 2022

The two-day mega auction for the 15th edition of the IPL was one of the most entertaining auctions ever. With the entry of two new franchises, the bidding wars became much more intriguing than ever. However, a major drawback of the idea of introducing two new teams was evident in the auction room. Most of the teams were seen making a lot of ambiguous bids as the increase in the number of teams changed the auction dynamics completely. As per the rituals of every auction, last weekend, a few surprising names became overnight millionaires and a few players saw their stocks going down. In this article, we will be discussing the 5 most undervalued players in IPL mega auction 2022.

5 Most undervalued players in IPL auction 2022

5) Ashwin Hebbar (20 L)

Ashwin Hebbar’s name might not excite someone until he(or she) hears about the feat Hebbar achieved during the SMAT 2021. The opening batsman from Andhra Pradesh was the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament last year with a blistering average of 93. Moreover, he scored a hundred against Haryana’s bowling line-up that had the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, and Jayant Yadav. The only team to bet on Hebbar’s talent was Delhi Capitals. The Delhi-based franchise bought Ashwin at his base price of INR 20 Lakhs.

4) Yash Dhull (50 L)

The under-19 world cup winning captain of India, Yash Dhull, is having a great time on the park these days. He followed his brilliant performances in the WC by a hundred on his first-class debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu. The comparisons are on as the experts believe he could be the next big thing in Indian cricket. Former U-19 WC-winning captains, Prithvi Shaw and Virat Kohli are already the two prominent names among the new generation of Indian cricket lovers. With his confident batting and leadership qualities, Dhull has started his career with a bang. Dhull, at a mere INR 50 Lakhs, was an absolute steal at the auction by the Capitals. At 50 lakhs, he is one of the best future investments made by the team. Certainly, Delhi has tried not to repeat the mistake they made in 2008 by not picking Virat Kohli from the drafts.

3) Rishi Dhawan (55 L)

Rishi Dhawan was in a sublime form during the SMAT and VHT 2021-22. He was the third and second-highest wicket-taker in the SMAT and VHT respectively. Along with the bat, too, he made vital contributions for his team. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the VHT as he led Himachal Pradesh to their first-ever Vijay Hazare title. Certainly, he was worth way more than 55 lakhs at the auction but the auction dynamics were never in his favor. Unfortunately for Rishi, he has landed in a team(Punjab Kings) that already has too much competition for those number 6 and 7 spots. So, he might not be able to feature in Punjab’s first starting XI of the season but will fancy his chances as the tournament progresses.

2) David Warner (6.35 Cr)

The pocket sized dynamite from Australia had a forgettable IPL 2021. But Warner is known for making fiery comebacks. The much-awaited ICC T20 World Cup followed the IPL and Warner unleashed his prime form. He was the highest run-scorer for Australia with 289 runs and was also declared as the player of the tournament. According to the SRH coaching staff, some non-cricketing issues that occurred behind closed doors were the reasons for his departure from SRH. But with all that’s happened in the past is over and Warner has moved back to his former IPL team, Delhi. Given the kind of form Warner has at the moment, his auction price of INR 6.25 crores looks so tiny. He is 35 and has got at least three years to serve. Thus, Warner at INR 6.25 crores is a very smart buy from the Capitals.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal (6.5 Cr)

The first-time champions of the IPL, Rajasthan Royals, have built a solid team for IPL 15. With Chahal, Boult, and Prasidh, their bowling attack looks good. Yuzvendra Chahal is currently one of the best, if not the best, spinners in India. So, to get him in your team at just INR 6.5 crores was a bargain buy by the Royals. After the way his ties with RCB were broken, Chahal would be keen to give his ultimate best in the coming season of IPL.
