Mirabai Chanu held a huge lead of 12 kgs from the second-placed weightlifter after the snatch round itself. In total, she lifted 201 kgs (88+113). Last year she won a silver medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics by successfully lifting 202 kilograms. Mirabai Chanu now holds immense hopes from Indian fans ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary won silver and bronze respectively.

Earlier in the day, India won two medals in Birmingham. Incidentally, both of them came from weightlifting as well. While Sanket Sargrar secured a silver in the 55kg men’s category, Gururaja Poojary won a bronze in the 61 kg category.
