Avinash Sable was born in a farmer family in Beed district, Maharashtra. Sable’s village did not have transportation facility when he was a kid. He used to run 6 kilometers daily to reach his school. The daily run to the school and home was good practice for him to become a great athlete. After completing his higher secondary education, Sable joined the Indian army in 2013. His colleagues in army insisted him to participate in inter-army cross country running in 2015, where he started his athletic career. Later, he was trained by Amrish Kumar.

2018

Sable is well-known for making new records in every championship. In the 2018 National Open Championships held in Bhubaneswar, Avinash broke a 37-year-old national record of 8:30.88 which was held by Gopal Saini. Sable runs in 8:29.80, which created new history.

2019

Avinash won the silver medal in his debut international event, at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships in Doha. Sable broke his own record at the World Championships in October 2019. Earlier, he was not selected to the finals because he accidentally tripped in the track. But Athletics Federation of India went for appeal which included him to the final. Sable became the first Indian to qualify for the 3000 meters steeplechase final at the World Championships. He performed his best in the final and finished 13th out of 16 runners which qualified him to the 2020 Summer Olympics.

2020

Another national record by Sable was attained at the 2020 Delhi Half Marathon, where he completed the run in less than 61 minutes.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Sable was the fastest non-qualifier across all heats, where he finished seventh with new national record (8:18.12).

2022

He also created new histories in the year of 2022. His first record is at the Indian Grand Prix (8:16.21), and then at the Meeting International Mohamed VI in Rabat (8:12.48), placing 5th.

The latest medal win by Sable is at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, with a silver medal and new national record time of 8:11.20.
