IPL Most Expensive Spells: Top 10 most runs conceded in an innings in IPL

Basil Thampi ranks 1st in this embarrassing list of records

T20 cricket, since its inception, has been accepted as a batter friendly game, where bowlers ought to be slaughtered mercilessly. But sometimes, this massacre goes beyond control when a batter targets a single bowler. Let’s have a look at the top 10 most runs conceded in an innings in IPL.

List of Players who have conceded most runs in an innings in IPL.

10. Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi, the proteas pacer had a bad day wearing the yellow of Chennai. He conceded 62 runs in just 4 overs against Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was a batting pitch, so every bowler of CSK took a lot of pounding. But the spell of 4-0-62-0 makes him occupy the number 10 position in the list of bowlers who have conceded the most number of runs in an innings in IPL.

9. Michael Neser

Michael Neser, the Australian right-arm fast-medium bowler gave away 62 runs in 4 overs and ranks himself at number 9 in the list of bowlers who have conceded maximum runs in an innings in IPL. He was playing for Kings XI Punjab and the game was against mighty RCB. Adding insult to injury he couldn’t take any wicket either.

8. Ashok Dinda

Ashok Dinda, the super-fast bowler is regarded as one of the best Ranji bowlers from the state of Bengal. However, the lack of control in the IPL cost him a lot. In 2013, Ashok conceded 63 runs in 4 overs against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium. The spell didn’t get him any rewards but does position him at number 8 amongst the bowlers with the most runs conceded in an innings in IPL.

7. Varun Aron

Varun Aron also falls in the category of Dinda. Aron can produce a tremendous amount of pace, but more importantly, lacks inaccuracy. Varun Aron was taken for 63 runs in 4 overs by CSK in 2012. This is the 7th highest runs conceded in an innings in IPL. He got some relief as he took 2 scalps also.

6. Siddharth Kaul

Siddharth Kaul looked like the next IPL star during his early years in IPL, but destiny had something different in mind. Batters started to read him better as his IPL career went ahead and he became a more and more vulnerable asset. In 2020, at Sharjah, Mumbai Indians made most of his vulnerability and thrashed him for 64 runs in 4 overs. This is the 6th most number of runs conceded in an IPL inning.

5. Sandeep Sharma

Sandeep Sharma is definitely a surprise factor in this list. He has always been enough canny to not let batters take advantage of his lack of pace. The day of 14 May 2014 was completely different for him. He allowed 65 runs in 4 overs and sits at the 5th position in the pile of highest runs given away in an innings of IPL.

4. Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav had a forgettable day against RCB when he was smashed all over the place for 65 runs in 4 overs and that too without any wicket. This miserable day took him to number 4 in the list of bowlers who have conceded the most number of runs in an innings in IPL. Umesh did play for RCB in the future.

3. Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the Afghan mystery spinner has been considered as one of the best, not only in IPL but in leagues all over the world. This young lad had an ordinary day with the ball in hand when he was taken for 66 runs in 4 overs against SRH in 2019. He finished the innings without any wicket in front of his name.

2. Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma, the lanky pacer was never an economical T20 bowler, but the day of 8th May 2013 was the worst for him. He allowed 66 runs in 4 overs against CSK. The game was at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Ishant In the following years played for various franchises without much game time.

1.Basil Thampi

Basil Thamp, the boy from Kerala was playing for Gujarat Lions in the 2018 IPL. He was being applauded by everyone for his bowling skills. However, an off day in the office takes him to the number 1 position in the list of bowlers conceding the highest runs in an innings in IPL. At the home of RCB, Basil was pounded by RCB batters and at the end of 4 overs, he conceded 70 runs without any wicket.
