India and Sri Lanka’s Position Right Now

Pakistan defeat India in Super 4

India is in a treacherous position after losing to Pakistan in the Super 4 round. Hence, Rahul Dravid’s contingent cannot afford another loss. Defeat in today’s India Vs Sri Lanka will leave the defending champions depending on other results going their way to have a chance of making the final. However, Sri Lanka will become the favorites for a place in the summit clash.

Winning both the matches in the league stage, India was looking to be good. However, the astonishing loss against Pakistan has left India in a do-or-die position. Nonetheless, the Indian batters, which were going through a downfall in their form seem to have gotten back on track. After a first-ball duck in the first match, KL Rahul found fluency and played effective cameos in the rest of the two matches. Moreover, India’s star batter Virat Kohli also looked decorous with his bat, scoring two fifties in 3 matches. Kohli appeared to be close to his best, making a “conscious effort” to score at a higher rate.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup campaign didn’t get the idol started. As in the inaugural match against Afghanistan, they were dismissed for 105 runs. Afghanistan then scared down the target with 59 balls to spare. Moving ahead in the continent tournament Dasun Shanaka’s team has had two morale-boosting wins. One against Bangladesh, chasing down a strong 184-run target. Another against Afghanistan, in the Super 4.

Sri Lanka's morale-boosting wins

Beating Sri Lanka would not be child’s play. Since its dominance in Asia Cup history is as bright as the sun. However, currently, the stats appear to be in India’s favor. While Virat Kohli regains his original form, India’s Suryakumar Yadav looks to strike the ball as hard as possible. Hence his strike of 188.33 is quite evident of the same.

Dasun Shanaka happy with his side flying under the radar

India vs Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan captain is happy with his side flying under the radar. In an interview, he stated that he prefers no big-game pressure for his team so that they can play with full focus-

“When it comes to Asian cricket, everyone talks about India-Pakistan games. But I don’t mind the [lack of] big talk [around our team]. I would prefer to focus on the way we are playing.”

One bad result is all it takes to leave a team staring at possible elimination. However, that one bad result can also help the team search for what went wrong and learn from the previous mistakes. Both the teams have had their one such match and must have learned their lessons. We hope to see a tough match this evening as the Asian Dominance is at stake.
