After five long years, the best International teams are set to go head to head once again, fighting tooth and nail to become the undisputed T20 champions of the world. The majestic grandeur of the ICC T20 World Cup remains unparalleled since its inception back in 2007; when the shortest format of the game was taking its baby steps. The T20 format has since then played a pivotal role in revolutionizing the gentleman’s game. The format has been witness to some scintillating feats of excellence in all aspects of the game, be it extraordinary bowling performances or mesmerizing boundaries with the bat. With the T20 World Cup just around the corner, here’s a special look at the top five players to hit most sixes in T20 World Cup:
5. Mahela Jayawardene:
Unarguably one of the best middle-order batsmen Sri Lanka ever produced, Mahela Jayawardena still holds the record for the most combined runs scored by a batsman in the T20 World Cup, with his tally being 1016. However, it would come as a surprise to many, that contrary to his playing style, Mahela is at number 5 in this list, with a total of 25 sixes to his name in the 31 matches he has played in. He accomplished this feat in the first 5 editions of the T20 World cup and it is yet to be seen if his record can be broken this year.

4. AB de Villiers:
Perhaps among the greatest T20 batsmen of this generation, AB de Villiers is most definitely the one who reinvented the wheel with his innovative 360° shots. It would come as no surprise that ABD features on this list at number 4. The Protean has hit a whopping 30 sixes in the 29 matches he’s played in the T20 World Cup. This also happens to be the most by any South African.
3. Shane Watson:
Former Australian opener Shane Watson, who’s well known for his flamboyant batting style features in the top 3 players with the maximum sixes in the T20 World Cup. The Aussie has hit an impressive 31 sixes in the 22 matches he’s played in, which is the most by any player from the SENA countries.

2. Yuvraj Singh:
The sixer king from Chandigarh; Yuvraj Singh remains a part of an elite class of players who have represented their countries in all six editions of the T20 World Cup thus far. Yuvraj’s six-hitting journey started from the infamous Stuart Broad over from back in 2007 where he scored 36 runs in a single over, all of them coming from sixes. From then, there was no looking back for the left-hander. Hitting 33 sixes in the 28 matches he has featured in, Yuvi still remains one of the most prolific hitters of the white ball.
1. Chris Gayle:
While everyone was playing checkers, Chris Gayle was playing chess. Competing in a league of his own, the left-hander has almost double the number of sixes his closest competition has. Standing at a record 60 sixes in the 26 games he’s been a part of, the Caribbean stands out from the rest by a comprehensive margin. Unarguably the greatest T20 batsmen to have ever stepped foot in between the 22-yards, Chris Gayle has another opportunity to add to his legacy as he enters the ground wearing the infamous maroon jersey once again in the T20 World Cup this October.
