Breaking: Cheteshwar Pujara To Play County And One Day Cup For Sussex

Sussex Cricket on Thursday signed India’s test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara as overseas batter for the County Championship. And Royal London One-Day Cup competition.

Pujara will be replacing Australia batter Travis Head, who has requested Sussex Cricket to release him from his contract due to increased international commitments. And that he and his partner Jessica are expecting their first child.

The 34-year-old batter who plays for  Saurashtra in the Indian domestic circuit. Was recently dropped from the Indian Test side in the home Srilankan series due to poor form. Pujara will definitely hope to score some important runs in England and pave his way back to the Indian Test squad.

Cheteshwar Pujara will arrive ahead of the first County game. And will remain available until at least the end of the One-Day Championship. Pujara has previously played in County Cricket with Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Pujara, who was part of Chennai Super Kings in last year’s IPL. Went unsold this time and is free to join Sussex in time for the first County game of the season against Nottinghamshire from April 7. And will also be part of the 50-over domestic competition.

Sussex have also signed Australian wicket-keeper batsman Josh Philippe for the T20 matches and some County games. Moreover, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan will leave midway with the Pakistan West Indies ODI series moved to early June. So Josh is expected to fill his shoes. “I am delighted to be joining Sussex for the T20 Blast. And the County Championship. The opportunity to play in England with a young and talented Sussex squad is something I am really looking forward to.” Philippe quoted.
