The second most followed T20 franchise cricket league in the world after IPL the Big Bash League has announced the introduction of a draft system for the purchase of international cricket stars for the 2022-23 edition. Cricket Australia announced all overseas men’s players who want to feature in the tournament will have to nominate themselves for the draft. And they will be allocated amongst the four different pay bands.
With the BBL 12th edition scheduled to start in December. So the draft is expected to take place in the next few months. The franchises have a limit to pick a minimum of two and a maximum of three players.
“We’ve been working on it for a little while in ways that we can work with our clubs to get the best overseas players in and we know part of that is making sure we can be as competitive as required from a salary perspective,”

Four categories
The draft order will also be determined by a weighted lottery system. With the three teams that missed the finals of the BBL 11 being entered first. These teams will determine the first three selections.
There will be four categories and players will be nominated in four rounds — Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. However, the exact pay scale wasn’t revealed but it is anticipated that those in the Platinum Group are set to be in the highest payment band.
