Indian cricket fans are troubled to look at their best, most experienced batters struggling to score runs. Virat Kohli and newly appointed skipper Rohit Sharma’s performances in IPL 2022 have been below par. While Kohli has registered 3 ducks for the first time in a tournament. Rohit Sharma becomes the player to have the most ducks (14) in the history of IPL. Despite, Virat’s poor performance, RCB has been performing well. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians were the first team to be out of the race for playoffs. There are talks that both of them can be rested from the series against South Africa. Amidst these rumors, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has cleared some air about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s poor performances in IPL.
Virat Kohli has managed to score 236 runs in 13 matches at an average of 19.67 average. Moreover, what is even more disappointing is Virat scoring the runs at a strike rate of just 113.46. Although he has been unlucky, Virat has been trying hard to stay positive. He is a team player and is appreciative of others’ efforts.
Rohit Sharma has scored 218 runs in 12 matches at an average of 18.17. His strike rate has been better comparatively, but he still looks for a fifty-plus score this season, unlike Virat. MI is out of the tournament already, so Rohit Sharma is expected to play his natural game in the remaining 2 matches.
Sourav Ganguly speaks up on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s poor form in IPL
“I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament.”Â
Sourav Ganguly
Following IPL, India has contests against South Africa, Ireland, and England. Moreover, T20 WC 2022 will be played in Australia, beginning this October. Sourav has heavily backed the batters to bounce back before the World Cup.
