Kishan ignited a bidding war in the auction among franchises such as Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. (7) Pat Cummins (INR 15.50 Crore)
The Australian all-rounder, Pat Cummins, was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 auction for a total amount of Rs 15.50 Crore. As a result of this big purchase from KKR, Cummins became the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. In the 2022 auction held in Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were some of the franchises that invested interest in the all-rounder. However, ultimately Kolkata Knight Riders won the bidding battle against the two franchises and retained Pat Cummins this year for Rs 7.25 Crore.

The recently retired South African cricketer is on number 3rd of this list. Chris Morris was purchased by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 for a vast amount of Rs 16.25 Crore. With this, Morris became the most expensive buy of the 2021 edition of Indian Premiere League. Although, this large investment was made in hopes for great performances by the all-rounder, he scored a total of just 67 runs in 11 matches, which was not what expected of him from bat. Although, he did take 15 wickets in 11 matches for RR with the best being 4/23. By looking at his bowling stats, we can say that he contributed to RR in 2021 mainly through his skills with the ball.
