Most Hat-tricks in Indian Super League – Ranking Top 5 Footballers

Since the Indian Super League’s start in 2014, many players have scored three goals (a hat-trick) or more in a single match. Brazilian André Moritz was the first to achieve the feat, scoring three times for Mumbai City in a 5–0 win over Pune City. Since the tournament’s inception, there have been as many as 27 hat-tricks. In the 2015 season, there were a total of eight hat-tricks, the most in a season in ISL history. We’ll look at the top five players who have the most hat-tricks in the Indian Super League.

Players who have the most hat-tricks in the Indian Super League are:

5. John Stiven Mendoza Valencia – 2 Hat-tricks

While playing for Chennaiyin FC in the 2015 season, the Columbian striker became a fan favorite. During the same season, Mendoza accomplished the feat twice. His first hat-trick came against FC Goa, resulting in a 4-0 triumph for Chennaiyin FC. The second match was against Kerala Blasters, and Chennaiyin FC won by a score of 4-1. In that title-winning season, Mendoza scored 13 goals and added three assists for Chennaiyin FC.

4. Sunil Chhetri – 2 Hat-tricks

The Indian football team captain is one of only four Indian players in ISL history to score a hat-trick. Chhetri has two hat-tricks to his credit. The first occurred in 2015 when he was a member of Mumbai City. As a result of Chhetri’s brilliance, NorthEast United lost the match 5-1. The second was for Bengaluru FC in the 2018/19 season, when they defeated FC Pune City by a score of 3-1.

The Bengaluru FC skipper is currently only one goal away from the top spot of leading goalscorer in the history of the ISL, behind Coro, and will most likely overtake him this season.

3. Ferran Corominas – 2 Hat-tricks

Coro also has two hat-tricks to his credit as the ISL’s all-time leading goal scorer. In his first season in the ISL, Corominas scored both of his hat-tricks. The first guided FC Goa to a 4-3 win over Bengaluru FC, and the second helped them to a 5-2 triumph over Kerala Blasters. Corominas has been a beast in this league’s history, scoring 47 goals and assisting 16 times in just 58 games.

He won back-to-back golden boot awards in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons by scoring 18 and 16 goals in the respective seasons and almost won it again for the third time in the following 2019-20 season. He scored 14 goals and assisted on four that season, missing the award by just a single goal.

The 38-year-old Spaniard left FC Goa after that season to join third-tier Spanish football league side Atletico Baleares.

2. Iain Hume – 3 Hat-tricks

Hume made his ISL debut in 2014 with Kerala Blasters FC and played the next two seasons with Atlético de Kolkata, winning the 2016 ISL season before returning to Kerala Blasters in the 2017–18 ISL season. After that, in the next ISL season, which was his last, he played for FC Pune City.

The 2016 ISL winner has three hat-tricks to his credit. Two of them came with Atletico de Kolkata in the 2015 season, and one with the Kerala Blasters in the 2018-19 season. Mumbai City FC, FC Pune City, and Delhi Dynamos were among the teams targeted in these attacks.

1. Bartholomew Ogbeche – 3 Hat-tricks

The Nigerian striker is considered one of the deadliest finishers in the ISL. He has scored 44 goals in 66 appearances in the ISL. He has played for NorthEast United FC and Kerala Blasters FC in the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons, respectively.

Ogbeche was part of the Mumbai City FC team that won their maiden Hero ISL trophy in the 2020-21 season.

He scored both of his first two hat-tricks against Chennaiyin. His first hat-trick came in 2018 when he helped NorthEast United to a comeback win against Chennaiyin in a 4-3 victory. Ogbeche scored his second hat-trick as a Kerala Blasters player in 2020. But unfortunately, he ended up on the losing side that day as they were beaten 3-6 by Chennaiyin.

His most recent one came in a thumping win for Hyderabad over Odisha. Bartholomew Ogbeche scored three in a 6-1 victory for the Nizams.

Currently playing in his 4th season in the ISL, he is leading the golden boot race for the ongoing 2021-22 ISL season with 9 goals in 9 matches and has been a key player for Hyderabad FC this season.
