The top three athletes globally this year, according to Google searches, were all tennis players: Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. The company’s annual year in search report found that the best athletes were typically among the most popular searches in their respective nations. Serena came in at No. 10 on the list of top searches in the US. While Nadal and Alcaraz, respectively, came in at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, in Spain. Dominic Thiem was ranked No. 5 in Austria, and Ashleigh Barty was ranked No. 8 in Australia.
Djokovic was ranked fourth in Switzerland. While Roger Federer and Martina Hingis were ranked first and fifth respectively among Swiss citizens. Djokovic ranked No. 5 in Germany and No. 6 in Italy in terms of most searches. While Boris Becker was No. 4 in Germany and Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini were Nos. 4 and 6, respectively. Casper Ruud was Norway’s second-most-searched athlete during the year when he broke the country’s tennis record.
In Australia, five of the Top 10 most-searched Australians were tennis players, and Thiem was the most-searched Austrian there.
Popularity of the Tennis Players Rose Despite Popular Tennis Tournaments Without Being Aired on Television
Apart from the Australian Open, which ranked second among top searches in Australia and among the Top 5 in a number of other countries, tennis events were not as frequently featured as usual.
The findings reveal a significant amount of interest in the controversy surrounding Djokovic’s denial of a coronavirus vaccination prior to being granted a medical exemption to enter Australia as well as in well-known retirements like those of Williams, Federer, and Barty.
Google only made some data available. A number of nations, including France, Serbia, Croatia, China, and Russia, did not provide their search rankings.
