Netflix has some news. On January 13th, just three days before the Australian Open 2024, a docuseries titled “Break Point” will make its online streaming debut. Future tennis stars will be featured on the programme, which aims to popularise up-and-coming athletes. To put it mildly, the fan reactions to the show’s trailer are divided. However, with Serena Williams and Roger Federer promoting the series, it definitely will add a surge in viewership.
While some fans are delighted to have a sneak peek into the lives of tennis players off-court. Some have called it a publicity stunt. Again, there are fans of respective players who are excited to see their idols on screen but disappointed to see someone who they don’t think deserves the limelight.

The documentary aimmed at breaking tennis stereotypes
Fans are enthusiastic about this Netflix show as the Australian Open approaches in just a few weeks. The first five episodes of the show, which was developed by the team behind “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” are centred on Melbourne Park, Indian Wells, Madrid, and Roland Garros. The remaining five episodes of the season, which will focus on Wimbledon, Eastbourne, Queens Club, the U.S. Open, WTA Finals, and ATP Finals, will air in June.
The absence of well-known tennis legends like Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Novak Djokovic from the series is a subliminal statement about the influence that younger generations will have on the ATP and WTA circuits. Iga Swiatek, Sloane Stephens, Nick Kyrgios, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, and Ons Jabeur are just a few of the Grand Slam champions and finalists that are among the featured athletes.
“The changing of the guard is happening, the timing was really good, too. Because I love tennis, but I’m like, ‘Who is Tsitsipas?…But actually, you realize, My God, he’s No. 5 in the world…and he’s a really interesting guy. I’d like to know more about him.”
The executive producer James Gay-Rees said in an exclusive interview
The motive of the show is thus clear- it is looking at bringing out some more players into the spotlight. Though tennis geeks and regular followers definitely keep a track of their favorites, outside the circle
“ the last 15-20 years is, ‘Roger, Roger, Roger. Serena, Serena, Serena.’ For a reason, right? Obviously, we’re not disputing that, because they’re legends and icons. But I think it was really exciting shining a light on a new generation“
