Manchester United have started exploring the idea over a deal to sign Kalvin Phillips for 50 million euros as reported by many outlets from the English media. This transfer has been up in the air for a fair amount of time and now the English media are backing the possibility that the deal could be completed within a few days between United and the England midfielder. Phillips could be the first player that United sign of the Ten Hag era for the rebuild. It hasn’t formally accepted by the coach yet but that will not be a problem as Ralf Ragnick also backs it and hence it’s likely that Ten Hag would do the same.

This could be a very good deal for United as Phillips can revolutionaize United’s CDM position under Ten Hag. United haven’t formally submitted a bid yet to Leeds but they are exploring the possibility of it and waiting for Erik go give the ‘ok’. Phillips as a player has been excellent since he joined Leeds United in the Premier League, taking over the midfield in a system that really lacked shape and style. Yet he was able to thrive in it, protect the back 4 of Leeds and really putting on a show. If he is brought in a midfield that has a better structure and a clear idea of how to play which Ten Hag can do, Phillips is a player who can very much be the center of the manager’s plan.
He was also a critical player in England’s journey to the Euro 2021 final. He can play in a system of either a double pivot or maybe even a single pivot like in a 4-3-3 which Ten Hag might do at United. Though United are also looking at other options currently for the CDM position, Phillips is leading the race as of now. All in all, he can be a spectacular signing for the Red Devils and can mark an era.
