The Frenkie De Jong transfer saga at Barcelona has taken yet another twist with widespread reports in the English Media suggesting that Chelsea football club have begun discussions with the Spanish Giants over a potential transfer move for the Dutchman. The midfielder has been one of the biggest demanded players in the transfer market as several elite clubs are interested to sign him like Manchester United, Bayern Munich and now Chelsea too are in the race to get his signature.
Despite De Jong’s desire to remain at Barcelona, the club’s financial position has made his sale to an another club increasingly necessary to allow them to register new their new signings like Kounde and Lewandowski. The former Ajax star has been linked to Machester United for the vast majority of the summer as Erik Ten Hag is ken to reunite with the midfielder. However the Dutchman is not attracted by the United project and especially with the lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford. The English media suggests that both clubs are confident that they come to agreement but even if they come to an agreement, there is no indication from De Jong that he would agree to leave the Camp Nou.
It is also worth noting that due to Barcelona’s financial situation, De Jong is still owed an astronomical amount of around 40 Million Euros from the club. And the Spanish reports suggests that he will not leave until his salary situation has been resolved. So considering that there is a lot of complications in this deal, it is very likely that the De Jong saga is still far away from being finalised and completed. But it wold be interesting to see how this situation develops.
