Matthijs de Ligt to Bayern: Dutch Defender Leaves Juventus for Bayern for €80 million

The Dutch defender has signed a five-year contract with the Bavarians.

Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has left Serie A club Juventus for German champions FC Bayern Munich. The deal is set to be worth €80 million on a five-year deal, as reported by reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

De Ligt signs with Bayern in hopes of regaining the form he once had when he was captain of the famous Ajax side that reached the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League under manager Erik Ten Haag. At La Vecchia Signora, he battled with consistency and form as he was usually underneath the Bonucci-Chiellini duo in the pecking order.

Matthijs de Ligt’s Career So Far

De Ligt joined the Ajax academy when he was just 9 years old, and made his debut for Jong Ajax in 2016 at the age of 17. Due to his rapid development, he was promoted to the first team one month after making his debut for the academy team. De Ligt was a starter in the starting lineup after Davidson Sanchez left for Tottenham Hotspur in 2018, and at the age of 19, he also took over as captain after Joel Veltman sustained an injury.

Due to his fantastic performances as the captain of de Godenzonen in the 2018/19 season, he left the club for Serie A champions Juventus on a five-year contract for a fee of €75 million.
