The fifth gameweek begins with a match between the third and fourth places.

The 5th Gameweek of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season kicks off with a clash between two heavyweights of the competition, Borussia Dortmund and TSG Hoffenheim.

Dortmund sit 4th in the table, winning their last match to bounce back after their 2-3 loss to Werder Bremen at the Signal Iduna Park in the second gameweek.

The visitors are seated one place above their hosts, in third place. Hoffenheim are on a three-game winning streak and have recovered well from their opening-day defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach, which they lost 3-1 and had a player sent off.

Both the teams go head-to-head to cement the third spot and to gain some momentum going deeper into the season.

In Dortmund’s win over Hertha Berlin, Anthony Modeste scored his first goal of the season, with Salih Ozcan assisting, and Gregor Kobel made three saves for his second clean sheet of the season. Jude Bellingham leads the league with 67 duels won, and he scored and assisted in their previous home game against Hoffenheim. TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has posted consecutive shutouts, and Dennis Geiger scored his first goal of the season in their win over Augsburg, with Robert Skov picking up an assist. Christoph Baumgartner leads them with two goals so far this season, while Croatian Andrej Kramaric, who leads Hoffenheim with two assists this season, has scored eight goals against Dortmund in his career. Ihlas Bebou will be out until the middle of September with a sprained knee, Benjamin Hubner is nearly recovered from a sore ankle, Ermin Bicakcic is questionable due to a lack of fitness, and Philipp Pentke is still recovering from an elbow injury.

Dortmund vs Hoffenheim: Match Predictions

Dortmund will have a slight advantage due to their resilience after losing a home match, as well as their overall experience and quality appearing to be slightly greater than their opponents. Five of the last six domestic meetings between these teams at the Westfalenstadion have been decided by a goal or fewer, and we expect a close game between two teams that have usually been able to be pretty tidy at the back, with the home side winning 1-0.
