Fabian Ruiz to PSG: Spanish Midfielder leaves Napoli in a €23m deal

The midfielder has left Italy to join the French Champions.

Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz has left Italian club Napoli to join League 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain. He has left the club in a €23 million deal and has signed a 5-year-contract with the French champions, as reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year old is just the latest addition to the new-look PSG under new manager Christophe Galtier, after already signing Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches from rivals Lille in a €15 million deal.

Fabian Ruiz’s Career So Far

The Spanish international started his professional career at the youth systems of Spanish club Real Betis. He made his debut in a Segunda Division game against CD Lugo in December 2014, and he helped his team to a promotion that year as champions.

He was loaned out to Elche in the 2017 winter transfer window, going back to the Segunda Division. He scored his first professional goal at Elche in a 3-1 away win against Gimnastic de Tarragona in March 2017. Unfortunately, the team were relegated to the third division at the end of the season and he was returned to Betis.

Upon returning to Betis ahead of the 2017/18 season, he became a regular under manager Quique Setien. He also scored his first goal in the top flight in a 4-0 home win against Levande.

His performances at Los Verdiblancos caught the eyes of European clubs ourside of Spain, and was eventually snapped up by Italian club Napoli, after they paid his €30 million buyout clause in the 2018 summer transfer window ahead of the 2018/19 season. He made his debut for the Gli Azzurri in September 2018 in a Champions League group game away to Red Star Belgrade, and made his Serie A debut a few days later in a 3-0 win over Parma.
