Kalvin Phillips Transfer News: Manchester City to sign him soon?

The ideal replacement for Fernandinho?

According to widespread reports, the Premier League Champions Manchester City are planning to submit a bid for Kalvin Phillips. Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of him and considers him the most likely replacement for the legendary midfielder Fernandinho who will leave this summer as his contract will expire. Pep has convinced the hierarchy of Manchester City that the England international has the perfect qualities and gameplay to takeover from the Brazilian. So a bid from City in a few days won’t be surprising.

But with Leeds United managing to stay in the Premier League after a relegation battle which went down to the very last matchday, it is thought that signing Phillips won’t be an easy and cheap deal because of Leeds staying in the PL. But if Leeds had been relegated, City would have got one of the best midfielders in the world at a bargain. The Premier League champions have scouted the midfielder several times over the past few years for a potential move, but now they consider it seriously and have assumed that they could get Phillips for a fee of around 50 Million Euros.

Leeds United have offered Phillips a contract renewal but the midfielder already having a contract with them until 2024 has stalled the negotiations as he is looking for a move elsewhere. He is also looking for a raise as currently, he is only earning about 40,000 euros per week which is quite less for a player like him. All in all, Kalvin Phillips could really be a great addition in Guardiola’s squad.
