Last summer Messi left Barcelona to join PSG as the Spanish Giants couldn’t afford to renew his contract. But since his move to PSG has been formalised, it hasn’t been one of Messi’s best seasons on the pitch as he just scored 11 goals in his debut season and this was his lowest total since the 2005-06 season. And when PSG were eliminated in the Champions League he was heavily blamed for it. The Argentine has signed a 2-year deal and with an option to extend it to another year, it currently looks like Messi would see out his contract in 2024 and then take another step in his career. It has been reported that Messi was likely to move to MLS and would also be looking to purchase a significant stake in David Beckham’s Inter Miami to join Beckham as a major owner.

But of course Messi has a special relationship with Barcelona and the club President Joan Laporta hopes to capitalise on a reunion with the striker next summer. He has recently come out and said that it’s his responsibility to fix the disaster of 2021 when Messi departed and ensure that the Argentine has a more beautiful ending with the club. Laporta also added that he thinks he owes the 6 time Ballon d’Or winner on a personal level. The club manager Xavi is also looking forward of the reunion with his former team mate and he has already asked the club to sign the Argentine for the 2024-24 season and maybe even beyond that.
However PSG wants to keep hold of him beyond 2024 and try to convince Messi to stay for an another season and trigger that ‘option to extend’ clause in his contract. Messi has benefited massively for PSG not only on the pitch but off the pitch too as he has reportedly earned the club more than half a billion Euros in revenue over the last 12 months. All in all, it would be interesting to see how this transfer saga develops.
