According to a large number of reports in the English media, it is believed that Tottenham Hotspur has completed the deal with FC Barcelona to sign the French defender Clement Lenglet on loan. Lenglet has been a regular starter in Barcelona’s team since he joined in 2018, however now that Xavi has been named as the new coach he prefers the likes of Ronald Araujo and Gerard Pique ahead of Lenglet which resulted in him being on the bench and getting fewer minutes to play.

So with World Cup around the corner, Lenglet is in desperate need of minutes in order to have any chance of being selected for the French National team who’ll go to play the Cup. He was most likely to go to his former club Sevilla but Antonio Conte’s desire to bring him to his team changed the Center back’s mind and he chose Spurs over Sevilla. However, the deal between Barcelona and Spurs was not at all smooth and easy cause the Spanish giants wanted Spurs to pay all of Lenglet’s wages but the Premier League side were reluctant to do that. So now after a few weeks of negotiations, a settlement has been reached between the clubs in which Spurs will cover 85% of the French defender’s wages and Barcelona have also inserted an option to buy of around 20 Million Euros, should the Premier League side decide to buy him after his loan spell.
Now whether or not Lenglet would be a permanent starter in Conte’s side remains to be seen with Romero, Dier and Sanchez all in the competition too. But given his experience of playing at the highest level certainly brings experience to the Premier League side. All in all, this transfer window shows that Conte has big plans for next season.
