Yuzvendra Chahal becomes the leading Wicket-taker in IPL!

Yuzvendra Chahal became the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League. He overtook Dwayne Bravo’s 183 wickets in Rajasthan’s match against KKR at the Eden Gardens. He crossed this milestone in just 143 matches with an average of 21.28. Chahal and Bravo are followed by Piyush Chawla (174), Amit Mishra (172), and Ravichandran Ashwin (171) in the list of most wickets in the IPL.

Chahal achieved the feat in his first over with the dismissal of Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana. Rana was caught out at deep backward square leg in the 11th over. Earlier he bagged a four-wicket haul against SRH in Rajasthan’s last match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With this four-wicket haul, he leveled Bravo’s 183 wickets.

Eden Gardens is one special ground for Yuzvendra Chahal. In 2013 he made his IPL debut at the same ground against Kolkata Knight Riders for Mumbai Indians. This was also the first match of Rohit Sharma as a captain for MI. After that, he went on to play for RCB from 2014 to 2021 and then for Rajasthan Royals from 2022.

Chahal 139 wickets out of his 184 wickets came while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Additionally, 52 of his wickets came at a small ground like Chinnaswamy Stadium. That is often referred to as a nightmare for bowlers. For Rajasthan Royals, he has picked up 44 wickets since he made a switch to the franchise.

Chahal also finished with 4/25 – his sixth four-for in the IPL. Now he became the current Purple Cap holder with 21 wickets in 12 matches. He also won the purple cap last year.
